Remotely Disarm the Alarm and Best Practices

1) Before an alarm happens — set up for the fastest response

  • Install the Alarm.com app (iOS / Android) and sign in with the account credentials the IT department provided.
  • Enable push notifications and allow the app to send alerts.
  • Optional but recommended: enable biometric unlock (Face ID / Touch ID / Android biometrics) for quick access and strong security.
  • Save dealer and monitoring‑center phone numbers in your contacts for quick calling and call screening.

2) When your phone receives an alarm notification

  1. Open the push notification (tap it). Most Alarm.com notifications include a quick link that opens the app to the alarm or to the security panel.

If the app opens to the alarm event, you’ll typically see the system state (Armed, Triggered) and which zone(s) caused the alarm.

Tap the panel or security widget labelled Disarm (or the lock icon).

    • If required, the app may ask you to confirm or to enter your app/passcode or biometric.
  2. Confirm disarm. The app will send the disarm command to the panel and — if successful — the system will change to Disarmed in the app.

3) Cancelling an alarm (what “cancel” means)

  • Disarming the system usually stops the alarm at the panel and cancels ongoing sirens.
  • If your system was already sent to the monitoring center, you should also notify the monitoring center (either the in-app message if available, or by phone) that it was a false alarm or that you are authorized and it is all clear. Monitoring companies often require verbal confirmation to cancel emergency dispatch. They should call you automatically when the alarm has been triggered for 90 seconds. They will ask for a password.

4) Security & best practices

  • Never share your app account credentials.
  • Keep the app and your phone OS up to date.
  • Require biometric or an app passcode for disarm actions if available.
  • Make sure monitoring and dealer contact details are up to date in your account.
